After Towns defeated Meaties in the Preliminary Final they went on to win the Grand Final with such players as P Cocking, P Benjamin, E Whittle, M Norval, R Corpus, R Boem, L Dornbush in a game that was one of the most exciting and exhibited the highest standard in skill seen for many years.

On Thursday, while training for the Grand Final, Mark Fogliani Saints full forward, tore his hamstring. He still kicked 4 goals under extreme difficulty and had a chance to win the game with 45 seconds to go. A long 'bomb' came to the goal square but he was unable to hobble forward a few metres to take the mark. Towns cleared the ball and won the Premiership by a solitary point.
